Capes Shipping Agencies Expands Gulf Coast Presence with New Corpus Christi and Mobile Offices

Strategic Growth Enhances Service Capabilities Amid Regional Maritime Developments

On July 23, Capes Shipping Agencies announced the opening of two new offices in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mobile, Alabama, reinforcing its commitment to the Gulf Coast maritime sector.

This expansion follows the recent establishment of their Houston office, further solidifying Capes' regional footprint.

Each new office is led by seasoned port managers: Gilbert Ortega in Corpus Christi and Jennings Lawler in Mobile.

They join Rodell Duff, who oversees operations from Houston.

Together, this leadership team brings decades of maritime expertise and deep local connections, ensuring seamless coordination of docking, customs, and cargo handling for Capes' clients.

The timing of these openings aligns with significant regional developments.

In Corpus Christi, the Port of Corpus Christi achieved a record-breaking 206.5 million tons of cargo throughput in 2024, driven by increases in crude oil and dry bulk commodities.

Additionally, the completion of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project in early 2025 has enhanced the port's capacity, deepening the channel to 54 feet and widening it to 530 feet, thereby accommodating larger vessels and increasing efficiency.

In Mobile, the maritime sector is also experiencing growth.

The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, located in downtown Mobile, continues to attract visitors and highlight the region's rich maritime heritage.

These developments underscore the strategic importance of Capes' expansion into these key Gulf Coast locations.

Company leaders emphasize that people remain at the heart of their model.

"Our growth along the Gulf Coast underscores our commitment to personalized service," said Steve Hagen, Vice President and General Manager.

Michael Coleman, President & CEO of CV International, added that the new managers' local insights will "deliver even greater value to our customers."

With these offices now operational, Capes Shipping Agencies is well-positioned to meet the rising demand for tailored port solutions on America's busy southern seaboard.
